Pinning keeps one post at the top of your Facebook profile or Page so it's the first thing visitors see — handy for a promotion, an announcement, or your best content. In a Group, the equivalent is a Featured post or Announcement that sits above the regular feed. The steps are slightly different for each, and Facebook uses different wording depending on where you are and which app version you have. Here's the current (2026) procedure for all three.

Pin a post to your personal profile

You can only pin your own posts, and just one post can be pinned at a time. Pinning a new post automatically unpins the old one.

On the Facebook app (iOS and Android):

  1. Open the Facebook app and go to your profile.
  2. Find the post you want to pin (it must already be published).
  3. Tap the three-dot menu () in the top-right corner of that post.
  4. Tap Pin to top of profile. Depending on your app version, this may read Pin post.

On desktop (facebook.com): go to your profile, hover over the post, click the three-dot menu, and choose Pin post. The post jumps to the top of your timeline with a Pinned label.

Note: a personal profile also has a separate Featured section for highlighted photos and details. That is not the same as pinning a post — pinning applies to a full post, while Featured is for individual photos.

Pin a post to a Facebook Page

To manage a Page post you need to be acting as the Page (or have an admin/editor role). Only one post can be pinned per Page.

  1. Switch into your Page profile, or open the Page in Meta Business Suite.
  2. Go to the post you want at the top.
  3. Tap or click the three-dot menu () on the post.
  4. Select Pin to top of Page. Some versions label this Pin post.

The pinned post moves to the top of your Page feed with a small pin icon or Pinned tag. As with profiles, pinning a different post replaces the current one.

Feature (pin) a post in a Facebook Group

Groups work differently. There's no single "pin" for members — instead, admins and moderators can highlight posts at the top of the group. Regular members usually won't see this option.

  1. Open the group and find the post.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu () on the post.
  3. Choose Mark as announcement to send it to the group's Announcements section at the top. In some versions the option reads Feature post.

Announcements appear in a dedicated block above the normal group feed. Unlike a profile or Page, a group can hold more than one announcement at a time (Facebook caps the total), so you can keep several important posts pinned together. Your version may show either the "Announcement" or "Feature" wording — both surface the post near the top.

How long a pinned post stays pinned

A pinned or featured post does not expire on its own. It stays put until one of these happens:

  • Profile or Page: the pin remains until you unpin it or pin a different post in its place.
  • Group: an announcement stays until an admin or moderator removes it.

There's no built-in countdown or automatic unpin, so remember to remove an out-of-date pin yourself.

How to unpin or unfeature a post

Reverse the process using the same three-dot menu:

  • Profile or Page: tap the three-dot menu () on the pinned post and choose Unpin post (may read Unpin from profile or Unpin from Page).
  • Group: open the announcement's three-dot menu and select Remove from announcements or Unfeature post.

Unpinning only moves the post back into your normal feed in its original date order — it does not delete the post, its likes, or its comments.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pin more than one post at a time?

On a personal profile or a Page, no — only one post can be pinned, and pinning a new one replaces it. In a Group, admins can keep multiple announcements pinned at once, up to the limit Facebook sets.

Does pinning notify my followers or group members?

Pinning a post to your profile or Page does not send a notification on its own. In a Group, marking a post as an announcement can notify members, so use it for genuinely important updates rather than routine posts.

Why don't I see the "Pin" or "Feature" option?

You can only pin a post you own, and you need to be an admin or moderator to feature a post in a Group. Make sure you're viewing the post as the right identity (your profile, your Page, or as a group admin). If the wording looks different from this guide, your app version may simply label it another way — look for "Pin," "Pin to top," "Feature," or "Announcement" in the three-dot menu.
