His Armenian heritage informed humanitarian work, which intensified after the 1988 earthquake. Relief activity became another part of his public life.

Aznavour’s 1996 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction recognises the writing behind his performing career. Its biography describes songs built around everyday emotional situations and an international touring practice in which he learned languages so audiences could understand the words. It also records his 1993 tour with Liza Minnelli. Those strands help explain why a catalogue associated with one distinctive voice also travelled through other singers and languages.

SACEM’s history traces Hier encore from its French recording to Aznavour’s 1966 English version, with an adapted lyric by Herbert Kretzmer. That recording appeared in the United States and Canada alongside English versions of earlier songs. It is an example of adaptation, rather than a change of title alone: the lyricist and language are part of identifying the work. SACEM also distinguishes the Olympia concert of 1967 from its international record releases in 1968 and 1969.
