Life & work
Biography and career records reviewed 23 Oct 2026.
Born Abhas Kumar Ganguly in Khandwa, Kishore Kumar entered a film industry already familiar to his elder brother Ashok Kumar. His career crossed acting, singing and filmmaking, making his screen presence part of the story of his voice.
SaregamaPersonal profile
Kumar combined two kinds of screen performance. He acted and sang in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, whereas his Aradhana recordings supplied Rajesh Khanna’s singing voice. Earlier, Ziddi paired his playback with Dev Anand. Those contrasts show how a singer’s personality can serve both his own acting and another performer’s character.
SaregamaNew listeners can begin with the playful Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, then hear the romantic Aradhana recordings and Zindagi Ek Safar from Andaz. Together they reveal different sides of his performance style.
