What the numbers mean
Retention is high in this category, but the metric that matters for ranking is watch time, and a view burst that does not hold attention is worth little: a large burst at a low average view duration signals to the algorithm that the video is not compelling. Some vendors sell 'high-retention views' and advertise average watch time above 40%; we have not bought or tracked a YouTube view order, so we cannot say how often that figure holds.
